Archie Griffin - Delight yourself in the Lord!
Updated: Feb 4
Archie Griffin had the opportunity to do what no one else in history had ever done - win the Heisman trophy for a second time.
This was weighing heavy on his heart. He knew that it was something that he wanted to do, but was it something that he was meant for?
He was comforted and enlightened by a wonderful verse in the book of Psalms - Psalms 37:4
This Psalm instructs us to "Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart."
At this point Archie tells us, a great weight was lifted off of his shoulders. His job was to simply find joy in the Lord in his pursuit. He was to honor God in all he did, and to bring joy to others. Then, come what may, Archie would be fine. Win or lose, he would delight himself in the joy of the Lord.
This is a great lesson of inspiration for us all. When the weight of expectation gets to you, don't strive for perfection. Instead, delight yourself in the Lord. Delight in the gifts He has given you. Delight and have joy, and trust that He will give you the desires that are meant for your heart.
Thank you Archie!
God bless all!
